*Sigh* I already miss Linux

IE has failed me constantly time and time again. it wouldn't even download from Hotmail.
Stupid school computers.

Can't use chrome?

I wouldn't touch that bloated mess with a 10m pole
This was right after a fresh Win7 install, if you check the other tab you can see the only good reason to keep IE operating

IE is the old friend you know who always offers to help you move but ends up sticking their dick between the drawers and "sitting this one out you guys"

Click the broken page button up by the refresh button. Should fix it.
I'd take Chrome over IE any day of the week. Granted I'm an Android user, and the sync features are way better than any other browser.

Now in intrigued. I've been having trouble with Chrome's information-gathering and background lag recently. I'm an old Firefox proponent too, so what major advantages (other than the far wider range of addons) do you see in Firefox now over chrome? And what is the lightest modern browser you would use?
![]() 08/31/2014 at 19:08 |

if you want chrome without the background, try chromium or opera. firefox still uses way too much memory.

Safari is still pretty great tbh

Nevermind. I read up on Firefox's Do Not Track feature. Fuck Chrome, making the switch now...

Update it to IE11.

Safari for Windows is over 2 years outdated. Stop using it.

imo Chrome is a bloated mess. Their sync and fancy capabilities are outweighed by their poor memory allocation and active information collection.
Plus, not like I can sync much with an old 2.2 Froyo droid

I've always thought that IE's only purpose was so that I could download Firefox after a fresh install.

One of us...one of us....
Re: Lightweight, I'm trying out Midori right now. Windows and Linux, comes standard with elementary os (Which makes me wish to hell my house had internet so I could try it out. That's the only reason I left Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, without internet I couldn't DL drivers to get hardware to work or look up solutions)

Bingo.
Side note, thank zombie jesus for take ownership reg mods. Nothing more satisfying than fully deleting IE

Download Portable Firefox and throw it on a flash drive, worked like a charm for years in school computer labs.

Ah Winshit 7. I switched to Chrome with AdBlock Plus. ITS AMAZING.

As silly as it sounds, Virtual DJ. Freaking love that program, and Wine coundn't emulate stable enough. Also, everytime I tried plugging in my deck Linux would crash. Just...Amelia Earheart like noone's bidness. NBD, right? Quick google and sudo apt-get outta fix all right?
My new house, fantastic sweet ass house, has no internet.
Also I could never get Silverlight to work, or Java, and I'mma be a full time student this tues, don't have time to tinker :( So, bootleg win7

Considering I'm using a Chromebook right now, I'm not going to engage in argument.
If you keep the apps up to date, even the older droids are fine. I have my HTC G2 around as a backup phone if I need it. I don't use every feature, but it's nice to have synced bookmarks and plugins and login info.
I've never had a problem running Chrome on anything, though I can say from experience, XP felt far more sluggish than anything else. In Linux, Chromium works great, just like it should (Ubuntu 14.10 using XFCE).

Am I the only one that uses IE without issue?
![]() 08/31/2014 at 19:34 |

Ugggg, chrome. Amazing how everyother comment I post is about how bloated that browser is
LET'S KEEP THE PATTERN GOING. Chrome is bloated.
I mean, the software itself is alright, I used it for a year or two. But Google's info tracking, poor memory allocation, the whole 'individual process per tab' thing...nah.

Silverlight is a proprietary microsoft plugin and the linux port is dead. You'd have to do some complicated wine winecraft to get it to work.
I managed to get it working with a preconfigured wine installation called pipelight.
Java is shit anyway, so no loss. :)
I encourage everyone to use linux, I have had less problems with it than with windows. I'm pretty biased.

Huh? I'm not an HTML/ OS nut, I'm a graphics card guy.

I ended up doing just that, until college, where the computers are newer, and had chrome and firefox already installed.

linux is GREAT, don't get me wrong. But I'm not skilled enough to get one running to my spec offline. I allllmost got silverlight working, was installed, but I just could not get the user agent spoof working.
Wish I'd've known about pipelight, but see that's why I can't Linux offline. And java isn't great, but it's the only way I could participate in the Oppo F1 sim. Spent a good hour before giving up and leaving starbucks.

I hear IE11 is alright. Pretty much steer clear on principle after the horrid days that were IE5.5-7 (god, the winME days. What a tragic time)

Again no issues, maybe, just maybe, the people with the problems, the issue is on their end.

The droid, I /could/ get a newer android profile on it, she's already rooted. But her 800mhz OC'd processor and 282mb ram just can't handle anything newer. As such, only certain apps work.
Chrome was bad, bad, bad, bad on xp. 7 is...meh. But to stray from firefox for a moment...I am really digging Midori. Still only an unfinished build, but seems pretty stable 1hr in. IMO a better webkit broswer than old chrome.
Far from me to want to start an internet argument. If you got chrome working for you, no issues, with the sync features you like, kudos to ya. Not always as easy as it should be

Midori is great. I actually use Raspbian on my Raspberry Pi, and Midori is a great browser for it, super lightweight and modern enough to still be able to go on youtube and the rest of the internet.
What droid are you using? Other than money, anything stopping you from upgrading? I went from the G2 to the Galaxy S3, but can't really justify any more upgrades right now. I ended up fixing my S3 after putting my keys in the same pocket and cracking the screen because I couldn't find a better phone that I was willing to buy. Still love the S3, and now that it looks like a new phone again, I'm happy with it again, but I do miss a physical keyboard, even for the phone.
I have to admit, I used Firefox for the longest time, and then finally went to Chrome, but I will still go back to FF for certain plugins that I need from time to time.
My biggest initial problem was getting Two-Step Verification to work correctly, but now that it does work, I'd never turn it off. I've set it up for a couple customers who are concerned about their privacy (mainly ugly divorce cases), and it's a great way to keep unwanted access away, but to know when someone is trying. There are plenty of loopholes, but for what most people would need, two step is "good enough," at least as a peace of mind feature. For me, using a desktop, two different laptops, and my phone, I need my bookmarks to sync. It also means when I set up a test computer, I can set up Chrome and turn on Sync, and start working right away.

It's the old and simple galaxy precedent. It's an android the way a Reliant Robin is a car. Nostalgia's kept me attached to it more than anything. Played with an iphone 3 for a year or so, but came back to the droid cuz...well, shit works. GPS works, mail works, got a few modified apts (pandora with no ads or skip limits, heyoo!) and some great system wide ad blockage. Sure, I can't take pictures of my cheque and deposit it that way, but i can friggn play flacs. And it's tough as a nut, I cannot tell you how many engine bays it's fallen through
Chrome and sync to test newly built computers, that makes sense. Kinda the same vein as that one flash drive with all your necessary install files, but for websites no?
That two step verification...I see a lot of services and websites going on about how secure it is, but all I see is someone else asking for my phone number. What's different from just an email update, and is it actually worth it, or are 20+ digit maths based passwords sufficient enough?
![]() 08/31/2014 at 21:23 |

Your phone gets verified through the account, so a text code gets sent to your phone to verify when you log in through a new device. Its not 100% fool proof, but it can prevent someone from easily accessing your account, as you would have a text or call to your phone when someone tries to log in.
While its possible for someone to spend a long time on phone support and try to change access, but its difficult, someone would have to be very dedicated to get through that.
Well, I dont test computers with chrome sync, i just have a very viscious refurb cycle, and my "office" machines change often, and i hate having to deal with remembering login info, bookmarks etc, so i just install chrome and log in.
I can appreciate durability though. My G2 is durable in a way the S3 wishes it could be.

Oh man remembering all the variations of that string password is half the fun. Still, think I'll keep my phone number to myself. The bookmark sync sounds handy tho...thanks for the info!
